SO…back in April of 2015 I made a post here about Favorite Albums, saying that I had been working on compiling a list of mine as a fun exercise to pinpoint a bunch of records that really made me, changed me, supported me, etc etc. Then again in September of 2015 I posted a follow up about not forgetting the project I gave myself that I wanted to share with whomever was interested. And now, fast forward to the present, almost two years later (which is horrifying). I have finally finished said list. It wasn’t necessarily two years in the making or anything like that, but, every time I opened the document with this sprawling list of wonderful records I always redefined it, added to it, subtracted, making subsections until finally this week I said, if not for anyone else I want to finish this crazy little project for myself for multiple reasons. One being because I always finish what I start and two, because I’m a mega music geek. I began this idea saying I was going to do a Top 25, then a Top 50 but came to the conclusion as I sat down in front of a wall of music that it’d be impossible for me, so, I decided to go for a Top 100, and even that was hard (you’ll even see an “honorable mention” section here because 100 just wasn’t enough :::wipes sweat from brow:::). On this list you’ll find: Pop, Metal, Singer/Songwriter, New Wave, Alternative, Rock and ALMOST everything in between. These selections come with a boat load of memories and inspiration for me, it’s not just because I love these records but they also hold little pieces of the puzzle that form my life. I’m happy to have them and thankful to all of these people involved in sharing what they do, because in the end that’s what it’s all about. So here, I share this list with you. Hope you have fun with it. Could this change by next month? Hahaha, it sure can so let me hit that publish button cause then I can’t turn back. If you don’t know these records, find and seek! Rock on!

The title above…is in relation to a post I dropped back on April 1st of this year entitled “Favorite Recordings”. It was to be a bit of a pet project for me (and still is mind you) in which I would put together a list of my favorite records. I figured a top 50 list would suffice but, as I ran over my vast collection of music I soon realized that I was at over 100 albums that I’d scribbled down onto some paper. Even 100 would prove to be difficult as I love so many albums, truly. I was able to put the list into a spread sheet and have been mowing over it to really whittle it down to this infamous 100. (As seen here, an ominous glowing screen boasting some 100 plus of my fave records, oooooo… <place scary ghost sound here>).

The list...in progress

The list…in progress

Of recent I have finally been able to get back to this project, it’s definitely been on my mind. However, since I posted that back in April I have Toured the Country, started working on a new record, been in an art show…all as my band continues to conquer the Tri-State area. So, I have been busy with really great stuff to say the least. I also absolutely love this Blog here and feel like I have a really great collection of awesome content so far in which I will continue to build on as time allows. With that said I’m going to try to have this final list on here soon with a short special write up for each record in my top 5. Anyway, that’s it for this go round. Just wanted to check in and give the MUSIC-SURVIVAL-GUIDE some love! Rock on!

Have you ever been asked that question from a group of friends, “If you were stuck on a desert island, what 3 albums would you bring?” I’m always so surprised when people can answer that with such ease, I almost feel bad for them thinking that they just don’t listen to enough great music. But me on the other hand, I’m a music junkie and listen to endless bands and artists. Anyway, I had this idea which I thought would be fun for the blog and a great exercise for me…I wanted to make a top 50 list of my favorite albums, soundtracks, EP’s…whatever. SO, turns out even 50 was too tough! I went through my collection and wound up with a scratchy list that was about 130 titles long.

"The List" round one

“The List” round one

I figured at that point I would do a top 100 and really push myself to narrow down the list and put into perspective which are my to die for pieces of music.

Over the last week I have started to put everything into a spreadsheet and order, reorder, re-reorder…you get where I’m going with this. So forthcoming will be my ultimate list (and by the looks of it I’m for the most part a snobby quirky/obscure 90’s Alternative Music fanatic, but I think I already knew that!)

Looking forward to sharing this with you and maybe challenging anyone that has the time to maybe make a list of their own as well, I’d love to see it!

STAY TUNED…
